Administrative Periodic Review

Why We Do It

Administrative periodic review at UC Merced is intended to ensure each unit is efficiently, effectively meeting customers' needs and that each unit's efforts are aligned with the overarching institutional priorities and mission.

In design, periodic review is intended to be both formative in that it shapes each unit's actions in its ongoing development, and summative in that it identifies issues and problems that need to be addressed, along with actions required to address such issues and problems. All administrative units engage in periodic review.

How We Do It

As outlined in UC Merced's Policy for Annual Assessment and Periodic Review of Administrative Units, administrative periodic review involves a comprehensive retrospective review of a unit's annual assessment findings and practices in order to:

  • consider what has been learned about each unit's performance in relation to its responsibilities and intended performance;
  • evaluate the efficacy of each unit's assessment activities for improving the quality of its services;
  • review each unit's goals and outcomes in light of evolving institutional context and priorities, and identify plans for improvement, including the quality of assessment as a means for improvement

Divisions or schools are free to develop their own program review processes in keeping with the minimum expectations outlined by policy.

When We Do It

Units are expected to undergo review at least once every seven years. The schedule is available here.
